Some very exciting things have been going on at George’s Rockstars which will help us bring more music to children facing serious illness and disability in hospitals across Hampshire and hopefully soon beyond!
As well as being a BBC Children in Need 2023 charity, we are also being supported by Global’s Make Some Noise campaign, which helps amazing small charities across the UK carry on vital work.
As part of the campaign, our co-founder and George’s mum Amy and our Lead Therapist Cathy, were invited to talk about the charity live in London on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston this week, telling the nation about the inspiration behind our charity and the huge impact music is having for children in the 4 hospitals we work in.
Support from Make Some Noise is going to enable us to bring music therapy to the children in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) at Southampton Children’s Hospital from next Spring!
The children admitted to these wards are critically ill, many face a long and hard road to recovery and many spend time ventilated but can hear what is going on around them, some sadly will not recover from the severity of their illness/ condition.
We will be able to support these children and their families and siblings during an extremely stressful and traumatic time through the power of music. (Look out for a further blog post!)
Support like this also means we will then be supporting children in 6 wards across 4 hospitals in Hampshire! There are still at least 3 more wards including Neuro, Cardiac and the Renal dialysis unit at Southampton that we want to help through music before expanding across the South and you can help us do that!

Cathy will also be talking to the South on Heart FM Drive Time with Rich Clarke on Friday 6th October from 4pm for Make Some Noise Day!! Head on over to Global Player to listen in! https://www.globalplayer.com
