Sophie’s story

Many of you will know of beautiful 10 year old Sophie (Sophie’s journey), who passed away in September 2021 from Anaplastic Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of childhood cancer.

During her time in hospital, Sophie had music therapy with our music therapist Cathy at QA hospital which she really enjoyed and found lifting during a really hard time in her gruelling treatment.

Sophie’s family have now donated £1,000 to George’s Rockstars in Sophie’s memory to help us continue to provide music therapy for children in hospital like Sophie. An amazingly generous donation in memory of an incredible little girl.

We would also like to help Sophie’s family’s campaign to have play therapy for children in hospital 7 days a week.

This was something on Sophie’s bucket list and during our time in hospital with George we also found that there was quite often no play therapist available for children. Many children spend a huge amount of their childhoods in hospital and play is hugely important to their development and wellbeing and like music therapy, helps them to process and cope with the emotions and difficulties of being in hospital. We hope to provide more therapy for children through music as the charity grows and would like to see #sophieslegacy grow and help provide more play therapy for children in hospital too.

We will be meeting with Sophie’s mum Charlotte and also our good friend Sally @ Abby’s Heroes very soon to see how we can help to make this happen.
